– As incumbent Councilor Kayode Alebiosu continues to deliver his account of stewardship among residents of Awodi-Ora with the distribution of JAMB forms to prospective students.
While the terminology; ‘Aspirant trilogy’ adopted as part of the title for this piece is not about the three musical albums released by Rick Wakeman a keyboard wizard, the political tension on the other hand, however healthy it may be perceived among leaders in attendance at the Ward meeting for members of All Progressives Congress {APC} Ward D of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Friday, January 31, 2025, demands urgent attention among the decision makers of the party in the local government.
Borrowing the word from the presentation of one of the aspirants Mr Tijani Saheed, he says the scenario about the three aspirants {including the incumbent} contesting for Councillorship slot at Awodi-Ora Ward D is a case of Déjà vu.
In justifying his aspiration, Saheed posited that the stage is set for him to clinch the party councillorship slot, having contested on three occasions with the same aspirants over the last eight years!
According to Mr Saheed the two other aspirants {Kayode Alebiosu inclusive} had clinched the slot and gone on to represent Ward D on both occasions as Councilor, and now is his turn.
Oluwaseun Babalola, a former councillor for Ward D believes it was the call of party members in the Ward that is making him contest for the party ticket a second time.
In his brash posture, the responses of those in attendance could indicate he has the support of the majority of those in attendance. He alluded to the random phone calls by members of his Ward who often checked on his well-being. “This is a call from members of Awodi-Ora urging me to contest for the councillorship slot in Ward D,” he began. “And it would be detrimental to the wish of the people if I refused to heed to their calls, hence my decision to contest,” he added.
The incumbent councillor of Ward Olukayode Oladele Alebiosu, may have appeared unperturbed by the sudden reflection of the political wave in Ward D, as observed at yesterday’s Ward meeting, according to many are natural reactions during the electioneering period, which the people of Awodi-Ora are not an exception.
Rather than fall for the bait of wanting to impress party members in attendance, Alebiosu skillfully used the medium to recount his political performances as the incumbent legislature representing Ward D. His ability to gift over 142 members of his ward a sum of N5,000 each as part of New Year gift was quite commendable. Councilor Alebiosu during a recent interview said his ward has witnessed remarkable infrastructural projects during his tenure. He noted further that he has been able to maintain cordial relationships with members of his ward, especially on aspects of their welfare and well-being.
The highlight of Councilor Alebiosu’s speech was the announcement of JAMB form for ten {10} potential beneficiaries from Ward D.
As it stands, these three contenders are familiar foes politically. This will be evident during the Primary stage of the electioneering campaign at Ward D. The time may not be suitable shortly for leaders in the ward to nip in the bud, this healthy rivalry among the political trio of Olukayode Alebiosu, Babalola Oluwaseun and Tijani Saheed.
The political tension as observed yesterday, while rising, could be dealt with at the early stage, if one were to follow the remark of the party chairman at Ward D Alhaji Kareem Ajiboye, who feels that the more the merrier will enable healthy exercise of their political franchise.
However judging by the submission of one of the party leaders at Ward D Alhaji Simba, “The leadership of this ward led by federal lawmaker Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul PhD will call the three aspirants for peace and tranquillity to reign in this ward,” he said.
As it stands, interesting times await members of the party in Ward D, judging by the political activities that are unfolding in the ward over the past few weeks. The trilogy aspirants can only wait, lurk behind the keypad of their phones from rumours emanating on the social media space about their ward, and pounce on the single opportunity of who clinch the ticket as the flag bearer of Ward D Awodi Ora inside Ajeromi-ifelodun local government.
July 2025 may not be far away, but the road to July among this trio is already laden with political mirages that can only be visible to just one person, starting with Ward D leaders in a few weeks to come!
