It does not matter the fringe agitation by a selected few calling for ‘Ajegunle L’okan’, the political interest at this moment is farther in conception to the ’emotionalists’ who felt politics ought to follow certain social patterns, as against the realistic interest of key players. For the Oluwas and Ojoras political dynasties, the symptoms of power shift may begin to manifest in their political trajectory, except if perhaps Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa rise to the occasion, and reflect instinctively that the time is now to retain the political power directly or indirectly on the choice of Executive chairman in Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government. Remember Ifelodun LCDA is gone to ‘Kwara United’, Lagos for Lagos must take its course in Ajegunle!
It appears that several political interests are tied to the 2025 local government election in Lagos State. Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government and Ifelodun local council development are no exception.
Right here in Ajegunle and Ifelodun, the big cats have arrived at the table. They’ve cut their political shares starting from who becomes Councillors of each ward and to the big fish of who becomes Executive chairmen for both local government and local council development area respectively.
Given the aforementioned, and from obvious indications, these leaders have resolved to settle for consensus candidates either for councillors or executive chairmen ahead of the July 12, 2025, local government election in Lagos State.
What is obvious to many is that the big cats in the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Ifelodun LCDA are on the verge of finalising their consensus APC flag bearers representing the seven wards of the LCDA.
Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government appears to be brewing with political interests that are heavier than the effect of the decisions Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa and other leaders in AJIF may decide to take finally.
Some perennial political jobbers are on the prowl to take advantage of every political slip-up by the Apex leader representing Lagos-West Senatorial District and his cohorts under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The herculean task of this decision begins firstly with how Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa will make the mighty decision on which of his kinsmen and son from the Oluwa political dynasty would be the sole candidate of Justice Forum at Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government.
The Oluwas are parading business mogul and widely acclaimed technocrat Prince Wale Oluwa, conservative administrator Prince Noheem Agbolade Oluwa, astute Prince Lukmon Ajasa Oluwa, and former Lagos lawmaker Prince Fatai Oluwa as aspirants for the number one position in Ajeromi-ifelodun local government.
Furthermore, Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa will also consider ‘College Road Loyalist’ aspirant Comrade Olamilekan Akindipe (Lampholder). The Alayabiagba-based politician may be the ulterior ace of the College Road powerhouse in this game of political solitaire.
The other part of the political structure of APC in Ajegunle is built with the Mandate group. And quite significantly, the wild card entry of enterprising politician and CEO of Lagos State Ferry Service Hon. Ladi AbdulBaq Balogun has redefined the political race in Ajegunle. He is a maverick and goal-getter, whose political machinations are often justifiable with an uncanny temerity for political revolution. The coming of Ladi Balogun is heavy and Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa can no longer take such with a pinch of salt because there has emerged a man who is bent on pursuing a new order of political polarization in Ajegunle!
For the business mogul and philanthropist which some residents largely within the Aiyetoro and Onibaba community consider as the man of the people, Alhaji Olawale Ariyo. He has stretched his political campaign beyond the wildest imagination of APC members in Ajegunle.
The Ajegunle L’okan mantra is the political metaphor and justification for Alhaji Olawale Ariyo’s political ambition in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, just like other aspirants who contested from Alayabiagba, Aiyetoro and Onibaba. His robust political campaign since 2024 has once again put to question, the impact and reactions of his political sympathisers and empathisers, once the news of the APC flag bearer is announced come May 10, 2025!
The Ojora political dynasty with the political presence of Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu is pushing for the dynamic Hon. Saheed Ojora former Majority leader at the 5th Legislative Council in Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government. He is politically agile, politically sociable and administratively savvy in the process of political mobilization beyond grassroots communities in Lagos State. His modish but friendly political philosophy spans from years of grassroots representation at the legislative and executive arm of Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government.
These aside other aspirants not mentioned thereof have catapulted the number of executive chairmanship aspirants to thirteen (13) in Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government.
Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa must step up the pedal of his political machinery. Political vultures are lurking on the open field, waiting for the imaginative political slip. Beyond this open secret, the stake is high; as various tales of political lobbying and political sabotage have gained prominence at the corridors of power at Abuja, Alausa and College Road.
The recent rumour circulating the round that former Governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode, Federal lawmaker James Faleke, and Lagos Chief of Staff Tayo Ayinde among others have been earmarked as members of the committee for Lagos local government election by the APC, will make a new political gods out of these respectable political personalities.
In view of these, elective-seeking politicians have become smarter, manipulative and tech-savvy with political insinuations that are ready to swing consideration for such elective positions in their favour. Therefore, aside from who’s got the financial capacity, lie the strategy of having the power of persuasion before the political kingmakers!
Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa celebrated his 86th birthday on Thursday April 24, 2025. And in the eyes of his political traducers, ‘Totomatinge’ is old, and incapable of playing this card of political shibboleth at this ‘high way’ of political permutations, and at such could be outsmarted with the sole ticket taken away from College road.
The ‘Kwara United’ kind of politics in Ajegunle and Ifelodun has attained a conscious level of political polarization. The group is resilient, focused and power savvy. This is a damning red flag for the Oluwa and Ojora’s political dynasties in Ajegunle and Ifelodun. Asiwaju Rabiu Adio Oluwa must not undermine the political strategy of this group as a political volte-face, rather, their opposite direction in this fight for political power in Ajeromi-Ifelodun is a calculated political heist waiting to be completed with the emerging number of aspirants for executive chairman position in Ajegunle.
The person who emerges as the executive chairman of Ajeromi-Ifelodun local government will be a major decider on who wins under the APC platform in 2027. Hence the decision has a ripple effect overtly and covertly!
The political stage is fragile but sensitive. Many political leaders would be retired going forward into 2027 in Ajegunle. The youths unsurprisingly are the major political contenders, and a new political precedent is in the offing. This is the moment, and the Oluwas and Ojoras must get it right, starting from May 10, 2025, or else they can kiss goodbye, their political dominance in Ajegunle forever!
