SPORTS: ST. MARY ALL STARS FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP: CHIEF JOHN AKPAN NAVANEY CHARITY FOUNDATION DONATES TROPHY, 1 MILLION NAIRA
– Says gesture will promote unity and sportsmanship in the grassroots

Given the proposed football championships organized among the ‘All Stars Football Club’ in Lagos State, Navaney Charity Foundation has donated a trophy and N1 Million naira to St. Mary All Stars Football Club, the organizer of the planned football tournament.
Delivering the speech of Chief John Akpan founder of Navaney Charity Foundation, communication Manager Mrs Onyinye Udeh, said today is geared towards the celebration of unity and sportsmanship at the grassroots.
Mrs Udeh said further: “Today, we gather to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and community.
“I would like to congratulate St. Mary’s All Stars Football Club on their upcoming Champions Cup competition. Your dedication, perseverance, and passion for the beautiful game of football are truly inspiring and highly commendable.
“As a charity organization, Navaney Charity Foundation is committed to empowering communities and promoting positive values. We believe that sports have the power to unite, inspire, and transform lives.”
She ended the speech with an announcement of N1,0000,000.00 as support for the maiden edition of the All Stars football championship and a donation of a trophy.
“We are also pleased to pledge the sum of 1 million naira as prize money for the winners. 1st Place: ₦500,000, 2nd Place: ₦300,000, 3rd Place: ₦200,000.
“We hope that these prizes will not only motivate you to excel but also demonstrate our commitment to investing in the potential of our young people,” the statement reads.
Reacting to the gesture, the vice-chairman of the St. Mary All Stars football club commended the gesture. He went further to assert that St. Mary All Stars will win the trophy for the maiden football tournament.
Speaking with some members of the staff of Navaney Charity Foundation, they expressed the foundation’s commitment towards promoting sports and improving lifestyles in communities across the state.
Mr Oscar Oliseh head of media and publicity for Navaney Charity Foundation said football is a unifying factor that brings people together.
“I think it’s going to foster unity and cohesion in our community,” he noted.
He added that Chief John Akpan through Navaney Charity Foundation is willing to ensure that sports unify the people at the grassroots.
Coach John, who doubles as the General Manager, said it was an honour to have the foundation support the planned soccer championship. He added that the reason for the support was to promote unity and love among the elderly.
“This football competition will bring love to the community and the elderly,” he said.
Rounding off the event, Mrs Onyinye Udeh, communication manager for Navaney Charity Foundation, emphasized some of the foundation’s other activities, which he said involve monthly food distribution and medical care services for residents in communities across Lagos.
“We give cooked food and raw foods to various communities,” she said.
She added that the Navaney Charity Foundation engages residents in communities with free medical services.
“We have plans for this December to visit hospitals and take care of medical bills of patients,” she said.
